Model & Talent Scout
A Model and Talent Scout finds and recruits new faces for modeling and entertainment agencies by searching public spaces, events, and social media platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Talent Discovery: Source potential models and actors via scouting trips (concerts, malls, festivals) and digital scouting on social media.
- Initial Evaluation: Conduct preliminary screenings, assess industry fit, and organize test photo shoots or digital portfolio submissions.
- Networking & Relationship Building: Build connections with photographers, stylists, and aspiring talent to maintain a pipeline of fresh faces.
- Agency Coordination: Present new talent packages, polaroids, and portfolios to agency directors for official signing considerations.
- Contract Support: Assist in initial negotiations, coordination of project details, and guidance for new talent entering the industry.
Qualifications & Skills
- Keen Eye for Talent: Strong visual sense and understanding of current fashion and commercial casting standards.
- Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal abilities to approach strangers professionally and build trust with talent and parents of minors.
- Digital Literacy: Familiarity with social media sourcing, digital portfolio databases, and talent tracking software.
- Industry Knowledge: Awareness of trends in fashion, beauty, and entertainment.
Compensation
Commission-Based: Scouts receive approximately 5% of the model's booking fee for the talent's first year or two with the agency after a successful placement and signed booking.
Models & Talent Agent
A model and talent agent discovers, represents, and guides models and performers to secure work and build long-term careers in the fashion and entertainment industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Secure Work: Pitch and submit talent directly to casting directors, producers, and clients for auditions, campaigns, and runway shows.
- Negotiate Contracts: Handle financial terms, usage rights, and agreement conditions for booked jobs.
- Maintain Networks: Build active professional relationships with industry buyers, photographers, and casting coordinators.
- Submitting to Castings: Monitor digital casting platforms and submit matching clients for open projects.
- Direct Pitching: Proactively call or email casting directors, fashion designers, and advertising producers to pitch specific talent.
- Managing Portfolios: Curate digital lookbooks, headshots, and demo reels to showcase the roster in a professional format.
- Handling Logistics: Coordinate auditions, negotiate usage rights and pay, and manage schedules to secure bookings.
- Legal Licensing: Operate under state legal requirements necessary to officially procure employment for talent.
Qualifications & Skills
- Professional experience in talent representation, casting, or a related field.
- Strong negotiation skills and knowledge of industry contract standards.
- Established or developing network of industry contacts.
- Familiarity with casting breakdown platforms and digital talent databases.
Compensation
Commission-Based: Agents typically charge 10%–20% of the talent's booking fee. The client pays the agency; the agency deducts its agreed-upon commission and remits the remainder to the talent within 30–120 days of client payment.
Models & Talent Manager
A talent manager focuses on long-term career strategy, branding, and day-to-day guidance for models and performers across the fashion and entertainment industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Career Strategy: Focus on long-term branding, public image, market positioning, and overall professional trajectory.
- Talent Development: Coach talent on skills, coordinate training or classes, and ensure portfolios, headshots, and comp cards stay current.
- Day-to-Day Guidance: Oversee daily schedules, offer advice on professional choices, and act as a general career mentor.
- Industry Networking: Attend fashion shows, theater productions, and industry events to build relationships with brands and decision-makers.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in talent management, artist relations, or career coaching.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to build trust and long-term relationships with talent and their families.
- Knowledge of the fashion and entertainment industry landscape.
Compensation
Commission-Based: Managers typically earn 10%–20% of the talent's total earnings. No upfront fees are charged to talent.
Tour Manager
A Tour Manager oversees all logistical, financial, and operational aspects of SLMTA talent tours, runway events, fashion shows, and promotional appearances. This is a salaried position requiring domestic and international travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Tour Logistics: Plan and coordinate all travel arrangements including flights, ground transportation, hotel accommodations, and per diem for talent and crew.
- Event Coordination: Liaise with event organizers, venue managers, production teams, and brand partners to ensure seamless execution of all scheduled appearances.
- Budget Management: Oversee tour budgets, track expenditures, process invoices, and submit financial reports to agency directors.
- Talent Supervision: Serve as the primary point of contact for talent on the road, managing schedules, call times, wardrobe coordination, and on-site needs.
- Crisis Management: Handle last-minute changes, cancellations, travel disruptions, and on-site emergencies with professionalism and composure.
- Vendor Relations: Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors, venues, caterers, and transportation providers.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed tour itineraries, contact sheets, and post-tour reports for agency records.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a tour manager, production coordinator, or event logistics professional in the fashion, entertainment, or live events industry.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple moving parts simultaneously.
- Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to command respect from talent, crew, and vendors alike.
- Proficiency with travel booking platforms, budgeting tools, and scheduling software.
- Valid passport and ability to travel domestically and internationally on short notice.
- Calm under pressure with excellent problem-solving abilities in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
Compensation
Salaried Position: Competitive annual salary commensurate with experience. Travel expenses, accommodations, and per diem fully covered during all tour engagements. Benefits package discussed during interview.

Scout Placement Fees
Commission-Based Placement (Finders' Fees): Independent or freelance scouts connect a new face with an agency. If the agency signs the talent and they successfully book paid jobs, the scout receives a cut — typically around 5% of the model's booking fee — usually paid out for a limited time such as the talent's first year or two with the agency.
Agent Payment Flow
SLMTA Agent Payment Flow: The client pays the agency in full when a model or talent completes a job. The agency deducts their agreed-upon percentage (typically 10% for talent agents; 15%–20% for modeling agencies; up to 25%–30% for newer or developing talent). Pre-approved expenses such as portfolio prints, test shoots, or digital comp card fees may also be deducted. The remainder is paid to the talent, typically within 30–120 days depending on when the client pays the agency's invoice.
No Upfront Fees
No Upfront Representation Fees: Legitimate talent and modeling agents do not charge upfront fees just to sign you or list you on their roster. They only get paid when you actually work and make money.
Tour Manager Salary
Salaried position with competitive annual compensation commensurate with experience. All travel, accommodations, and per diem are fully covered during tour engagements. Benefits discussed at interview.
